XPAND.CODES Barcode Reader Released!

We have launched "XPAND.CODES Barcode Reader", a QR code/barcode reader app that can also scan XPAND Code.
In February, we launched the "XPAND Code Open Connection Programme", enabling any QR code/barcode reader app to connect to XPAND Code — and this app is one practical example of that.
At the time the Open Connection Programme launched, an Android version had been released in advance, but with the iOS version now available too, we are pleased to announce the official full release.
The app is distributed with the aim of promoting XPAND Code and is not intended to generate revenue from the app itself, giving it the following characteristics:
Functionality is kept to a minimum, but so are the annoyances.
[Features]

  • Automatically identifies and scans XPAND Code / QR Code / Barcode
  • No usage fees, no account registration, no login required
  • No intrusive adverts
  • No extraction of personal information such as access to your contacts
  • Lightweight app size — roughly equivalent to 2–3 photos — making good use of limited storage space
  • UI available in Japanese, English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean

[How to get it]
Download it from the App Store or Google Play.

This is not positioned as the "official app" for XPAND Code — it is simply one of the barcode readers that supports XPAND Code.
Our ultimate goal is a world where XPAND Code can be scanned from any barcode reader.
With this release, XPAND Code can now be read in the following three ways:

  1. Scan via the XPAND.CODES website from a browser
  2. Scan using an XPAND Code-compatible app
  3. Scan using a QR code reader (XPAND Code Q only)

For details on the characteristics of each method, please see the information page, which includes a comparison table.
